On March 28, 2017, it was reported that the air purifier market is currently very unregulated, and there is an urgent need for relevant laws and regulations to restrain it. However, relevant departments have begun to address the issues in the air purifier market. According to reports from relevant media, the National Household Appliances Standardization Technical Committee is promoting the establishment of standards for core components of purifiers. The industry standards for the "Filter for Air Purifiers" and "Electrostatic Dust Collection Filter for Air Purifiers" have entered the finalization stage, and are expected to be officially released in 2018.

According to Zhang Xiao, director of the Health Appliance Analysis and Testing Center at the China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute, the content of these two standards is differentiated based on purification principles. The performance technical indicators are primarily the single-pass filtration efficiency and dust holding capacity, where the former indicates purification capability and the latter indicates filter lifespan. Consumers should particularly focus on these two items when purchasing filters separately. It is well known that the filter in an air purifier has a direct impact on its purification level, so the implementation of these industry standards is expected to greatly improve the air purifier market.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the new national standard for air purifiers implemented on March 1 last year has promoted the normative development of the industry, resulting in a significant survival of the fittest effect. Over the past year, approximately 100 air purifier brands have disappeared from the industry. However, we also know that the new national standard primarily tests the entire machine, and consumers do not have reference component standards when independently selecting filters for replacement. Therefore, the establishment of this standard further provides consumers with criteria for purchasing, making life more convenient for them.
