The role of HEPA filters is to filter fine particles
The role of HEPA filters is to filter fine particles (commonly referred to as PM2.5), bacteria, and various allergens, making it the core component of the filter. Many people may wonder whether this critical core filter can be cleaned?
Unfortunately, most HEPA filters used in air purifiers cannot be cleaned by water, mainly because HEPA materials are paper-based and generally cannot withstand washing.
So what happens if you wash the filter? I can tell you that if you wash a HEPA filter with water, it may appear cleaner on the surface (at least whiter), but this directly affects the purification efficiency. In most cases, the purification efficiency of a washed HEPA filter actually decreases.
Everyone is familiar with the functions of activated carbon filters, which mainly remove volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, hydrogen sulfide, chlorobenzene, and other pollutants from the air, and also play a role in deodorization and odor removal.
Can activated carbon filters be cleaned? The answer from me is YES; however, in general, the maintenance of activated carbon filters does not require overly complicated procedures. The simplest method is to place the filter in direct sunlight for a day.
If you want to wash an activated carbon filter with water, the water temperature must not exceed 50 degrees Celsius to ensure that the activated carbon does not deform due to high temperatures. You can also use a neutral detergent for cleaning, but avoid strong acids and strong alkalis to prevent chemical damage.
